This was our last friendly match before County Week which was against a very strong team. We were also playing for the Cup which is something that Warks and Staffs have played for a number of years, so we were keen to maybe win it this time.  Both teams got a warm welcome from Leamington & County GC's Lady Captain, Peggy King, and Club Manager, Bryan Frazer. The catering staff looked after us superbly well too during the day. The course was in great condition.

Morning session: Claire Howells and Lauren Beaman were the first foursome out. They went 4 down after 7 holes, on 8th Lauren's putt was kept out by the pin, so it was 5 down. They fought very hard but finished 5 & 4. Zara Houghton and Lilly Phelps were the second foursome out. On 5th tee, they were 2 down, Lilly's great approach left Zara with a 4ft putt to win the hole, which she did and so they went 1 down. On 7th, the pin kept Zara's putt out, so it was again 2 down. They finished losing 3&2 against a very strong pairing.  Emma Morton was out next playing again a very strong player,  she founds herself 2 down after 7 holes, on 14th hole, even with a great chip, she got a half and remained 3 down after 14 holes. Emma battled really hard but lost 4&2. Holly Elliot was out next, 2 down after 6 holes, was 3 down after 7 after hitting the drive in the water but had a great approach to par 3, 8th, to bring it back to 2 down with a birdy. Unfortunately, she found herself 4 down after 9 and whilst trying really hard, lost 5&4. Lisa Barton was next, she was 2 down after 6 hols but won 7th hole. 2 down after 8, and again after battling really hard lost 4&3.

Afternoon session: Lauren Beaman and Holly Elliot went out first, they worked well together and were all square after 6 holes. They went 1up after 10 holes but ended up loosing the match 2&1. Claire Howells and Lilly Phelps were the next foursome out,  all square after 6 holes.  They went 3 up after 10 holes and continued they winning streak with a win 3&2.  Liz Haycock was next on the tee and found herself against a player who could not do a thing wrong, she was 6 down after 7 holes. On 8th green, they both holed a 20 foot putt for birdy, for a half, but was again 6 down after 10 holes.  The match ended in a loss for Liz 5&4. Zara was out next against a very steady player with luck on her side.  Zara was all square after 2 holes, 2 up after 10 holes but lost 2&1. Lisa was the last player out, she battled hard but was 3 down after 10 holes and lost 4&3.

The overall result was a loss for Warwickshire 1 vs 9

Staffs retained the strophy this time. Although this is not the result we were hoping for, everyone gave their all.

We can now look forward to County Week.
