Warwickshire Girls V Worcestershire and Herefordshire Girls at Robin Hood GC on Sunday 9th July 2017
With recently reduced handicaps in many cases the Warwickshire Girls League team played their second match in the Midland South league against Worcestershire and Herefordshire at Robin Hood Golf Club on Sunday 9th July. The scratch team was captained by Victoria Brewer (Ladbrook Park). However despite the recent handicap reductions our girls are not quite ready to match the strength of the opposition. Katie Drew who has now reduced her handicap to 13 managed to take her match to the 15th green - a great achievement against Constance Brooks who was very much on her game. The other scratch team members were Phoebe Anderson and Jessica McGhee who are both from Rugby along with Katie Lyth (Copt Heath) and Megan Gee (Maxstoke).
Although, not part of the match, we would like to congratulate Katie Drew on her hole in one on the 16th. It was a wonderful iron which hit the front of the green and ran straight into the hole. A beautiful sight….
In the handicap section of the competition Warwickshire came out on top with Amelia Machin (Kenilworth) winning 4/3 and Holly Elliott (Oakridge) managing to secure another point winning on the 18th hole. Maisie Halstead (Kenilworth) who has had a great record when playing for the county was beaten this time by Lucy Buckley.
Finally we had 3 girls who played in the matches designed to gain experience. Roxanne Lindsay (Coventry) and Hazel Smith (Hatchford Brook) lost on the 15th hole whilst Zara Houghton (Copt Heath) managed to halve her game. Hazel Smith was playing her first game for the County.
The final combined result was 9 1/2 - 2 1/2 to Worcestershire and Herefordshire
As ever the games were played in great spirit and friendship and I am sure that in time with further handicap reductions the girls will soon be challenging their opposition in all of the matches.
