MAXSTOKE LADIES WIN IN THE COLD!

Monday 2nd February saw the Winter Alliance being played at Stonebridge Golf Club with the first 9 holes played on the Blythe course and the back 9 on the Somers Course. Concern over the previous few days as to whether the course would be open due to snow and icey conditions, proved to be unfounded.  Yes it was icy and when play commenced at 10.00 a.m. the temperature was still -2 degrees - but no wind!!  The course was frozen solid on greens, fairways, bunkers and even ponds, but from one who played, it was very enjoyable.

Once you had adjusted to the very bouncy conditions, realising that the ponds did not prove to be the usual hazard as the ball just bounced off rather than in, everyone enjoyed their day out at Stonebridge GC.  My, there were some very good scores recorded, with the pairing from Maxstoke Park taking the honours with a fantastic 38 points,  followed by the Edgbaston Pair coming a close second with 37 points.

After golf, the players looked delighted to be in the clubhouse enjoying food and a warming drink, as the temperature by this time had only raised by a couple of degrees!

County Captain, Karen HEARN welcomed everyone to Stonebridge GC and thanked the Club for allowing Warwickshire County Ladies to hold this Winter Alliance there and the Lady Captain, Jan KILMINSTER together with helpers on the Registration desk and Starters for their assistance during the day.  A particular thank you was given to Bev BATES, who had come out of retirement to run this event as a one-off!!
