Warwickshire Golf News 2020 - Week 8

Boldmere

Dean Miller lifted the Matt Wilson Trophy at Boldmere after finishing well clear of the chasing pack thanks to a magnificent round of net 53.

The 12-handicapper started with a gross birdie on the first and last holes on both loops of nine as he beat Darren Warner by eight strokes, with John Gibbins a further shot adrift in third.

Pype Hayes

One shot was the difference between first and second in both divisions of the February Medal at Pype Hayes as Robert Moore and Stephen Bennett took the respective plaudits.

Moore compiled a net 63 to nudge one ahead of Stephen Heathcote, Darran Storer and Nick Dymond in the top section, while Bennett’s excellent net 60 was too good for Colin Simmons.

The latest Ladies Nine-hole Eclectic comp went to Marie Pagett from Christine Drayton.

Oakridge

Rob Brunton and Alan Griffiths (32 points) were successful in the third round of the SOGS Winter League Pairs event at Oakridge. Raynor Handley and Kevin Tutchener (28) finished runners-up by one from Ian Moore and David Streeting.

Stoneleigh Deer Park

Tim McDonald’s birdie two on the 15th hole at Stoneleigh Deer Park proved decisive in the February Stags Stableford as the high-handicapper secured first position with 37 points.

The battle for second place went to countback as Chris McHale edged out Behdad Arian, Steven Hyland and Alan Brushett on 35 points apiece.

Windmill Village

Seven gross pars on Windmill Village’s front nine from 17-handicapper Paul Jephcott provided the catalyst to go on to win the Seniors Winter Stableford with a magnificent total of 46 points. On a good day for scoring, Graham Maguire (43) finished second by one point from Eric Sellence and Bob Tench.

Wishaw

Drew Wale compiled the best round in Wishaw’s February Extra Stableford as a tally of 42 points nudged the 19-handicapper one ahead of Paul Baker, with Ian Higgins leading the way in the first section with 38.

Harborne Church Farm

Consistency was the key to victory for Ted Pretty in Harborne Church Farm’s Winter Cup Medal as the mid-handicapper shot 13 gross pars and five bogeys in a winning round of net 58. Michael Smith (60) took second by three from Sean McCusker.

Copsewood Grange

Forty six points was a superb winning total for Ady Brophy in the February Stableford at Copsewood Grange as he finished four ahead of Neal Plummer, with James McGookin Jnr and Graham Grubb next on 41 apiece.

North Warwickshire

Three birdies and six pars on the front nine at North Warwickshire set the tone for Nigel Paul’s success in the February Stableford as he came in with 41 points. Chris Brown (38) finished second.
