LADBROOK JUNIORS QUALIFY FOR THE NATIONAL FINALS

The annual Warwickshire Junior Champion Club tournament was held at Shirley Golf Club on Sunday 7th October to find our qualifiers for the 2019 National Finals.

We had a record number of teams entered into the mixed stableford event where the boys played from the white tees and the girls from the reds. Due to the imbalance of Par and Standard Scratch from the White and Red tees the girls were given a 1 shot extra to balance the handicaps in this event.

Thankfully, all the rain had fallen the day before and it stayed fine throughout the day.

There was plenty of good golf played but only five players managed to beat par on the day and tied for the top in the individual competition was Lauren Besford from Copt Heath and Liam Scagell from Ladbrook Park both scoring 39 points, but with Lauren managed to take the winning voucher on a back nine count back.

The Team event is the best 2 scores to count from the 3 players and proved to be very tight as four Clubs finished within two shots of the lead. The top two of these Clubs becoming tied on 74 points which means that the third card of the team comes in as the decider.

So with no worse than 35 points between all three of them, Ladbrook Park were awarded the title and given the opportunity to play in the English Junior Champion Club Tournament that will be held at Woodhall Spa Golf Club in August next year. The team for Ladbrook was Liam Scagell (39 points), Louis Taylor (35 points) and Santino Francolini (35 points).

Missing out on count back but achieving the runner-up position was the team from Moor Hall that consisted of Ben Smith (37 points), Ethan Trouth (37 points) and Hugh McMenamin (32 points).

We would like to give our thanks to everyone at Shirley Golf Club for your warm hospitality and assistance throughout the day.
