SONIA SEKHON IS THE WARWICKSHIRE JUNIOR GIRLS CHAMPION 2018
Warwickshire Girls Championship at Oakridge Golf Course on Sunday 1 July began in glorious sunshine and this continued throughout the day with many of the girls finding 2 rounds in the heat very challenging. We were warmly welcomed to Oakridge by staff and members alike and although the course was playing long and the balls were running far in the hot dry conditions, the girls rose to the challenge and delivered some brilliant results.
The Winner of the 36 holes Gross competition was Sonia SEKHON with a score of 169 and she has qualified for the England Golf Girls County Champion of Champions to be held at Frilford Heath Golf Club in September. Sonia was also the winner of the 36 Hole Net competition with a score of 135.
The runner-up of the 36 Hole Gross competition was Jessica McGHEE with a score of 170.
Three girls qualified also for the MIDLAND JUNIOR CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS OVER 36 HOLES IN 3 AGE GROUPS based on age as at 1 January 2018: Aged 16 and 17 - Sonia SEKHON 169, Aged 14 and 15 - Zara HOUGHTON 172 and Under 14 - Katie DREW 176
In the Girls Age Group Championships the 18 Hole Gross winner (which is only open to girls who did not compete in the 36 Hole Competition) the winner was Maisie HALSTEAD with a score of 92. Maisie also won the Net prize with a score of 67.
In the Under 16 Gross category the winner was Megan GEE with a score of 87 (unfortunately Megan became unwell and had to withdraw so was not available for the photographs) and the winner of the Net category was Maisie HALSTEAD with a score of 67.
In the Under 14 Gross category the winner was Katie Drew with a score of 90 and Maisie Halstead again won the Net category with 67.
Congratulations to all the girls for completing their rounds in very hot conditions – it was not easy out there.
The morning CSS was 73, afternoon CSS was 73 and the SSS for the course is 74
