Free golf lessons on offer in Warwickshire Free golf lessons will be on offer from next week at three pitch and putt courses across Warwickshire. The weekly ‘Golf for u’ sessions start on April 11 and PGA professional Jason Powell will be on hand throughout the summer at:
The project takes golf out of its traditional club setting and is run by England Golf, in partnership with Warwick, Solihull and Coventry councils. It aims to make it easier than ever before to learn to play the game. It was trialled in Warwickshire last year and prompted enthusiastic feedback, including this comment from a novice who went on to become a golfer: “The informality and age range of all participants created a very relaxed introduction to golf and there was absolutely no embarrassment in being a total novice. “From this introduction to golf, and with others who started with me, I went on to take part in group coaching during the winter months and now play with some confidence on an 18 hole course with golfing partners that I met from participating in golf in the park. Looking back the total activity became a relaxed social event.” Another beginner remarked: “The opportunity for me and my family to all go and experience how golf should be played by a PGA professional was amazing. We really enjoyed the different activities held each week and the encouragement and one to one time that was still provided to us all to improve. A brilliant experience.” Jason’s coaching covers an introduction to the game, including grip, posture and swing. Anyone interested should just turn up in comfortable clothing and flat shoes to learn the basics, some information about the rules and a little ‘golf-speak.’ He’ll also provide a quick refreshers for returners who want to get back on the course.
