Warwickshire Golf

On a surprisingly warm and sunny day on Sunday, four girls were selected as part of a 1^st team match against Staffordshire at Rugby Golf Club. Skye was already playing our top 3 girls in her team so a team of Ella Tandy, Jessica Davies, Arisha Virik and Lily Knee (who kindly stepped in for Heather Gilks at the last minute) played. 

Two matches were played using a modified Greensomes format which gave them lots to think about when deciding which ball to play and whether to give putts! All good experience.

The first match out of Ella Tandy and Lily Knee (giving 4 shots) went down a little more than they might have enjoyed early in the match but had a terrific fight back showing real determination to win 1up on the 18^th.

The second match of Jessica Davies and Arisha Virik, (giving a daunting 8 shots against a strong pair) also went down early on and lost 4 and 3. I was hugely impressed though with the way they fought on even achieving a superb birdie on the 14^th.

My thanks go to Rugby who welcomed us with enthusiasm, to Jason the caterer who provided bacon baps and chicken nuggets and chips and to Lady Captain Deb Harrad and her helpers Sue and Hazel who escorted the first group on the course.

Whether this format will be run by away teams next year we shall have to wait and see, but there was no question how useful it was to give the girls match experience prior to their League matches. I know they felt a little inspired by being part of the 1^st team and I thank Skye for letting me include some girls in her match.
