The Rene Greey Trophy was played at Stratford Oaks Golf Club on Friday 10th October where 60 past Lady Captains from 19 Warwickshire golf clubs competed in a foursome stableford for the Rene Greey Trophy. The day was a little cloudy with a hint of drizzle but that didn’t deter the ladies.
Stratford Oaks is a popular course with very good practice facilities. The ladies’ section is thriving and I would like to thank the Lady Captain, Lindsey Ellis, for her help prior to the day and to James Howard and the 2 Gails, on the day. Janet Luckhurst, as Starter, sent the teams off and Sue Hawkins and Linda White ran the ball sweep, raising an amazing £243 for the junior girls. Many thanks to them and all the players who supported the sweep.
There were many comments on how well the course was playing, the ladies particularly liking the quality of the greens. Thank you to the green staff for their preparation. Many thanks, too, to Tim Knight, the referee for the day. All went very smoothly and the pace of play was spot on!!
The atmosphere in the clubhouse afterwards was buzzing. The Rene Greey is a great opportunity to catch up with friends made through golf over the years, whilst enjoying a 2 course meal. Thank you to Carl and his staff for catering to everyone’s needs.
Judith Pegler, the incoming WLCGA captain, announced the winners and presented the Rene Greey Trophy.
In second place, on countback, with 38 points from Moor Hall were Sandra Hadley-Smith and Jane Sanders.
And third place with 37 points were Liz Woolf and Janet Smith from Ladbrook Park Golf Club.
