The Midland Senior Womens Golf Association Team Championship was held this year at Trentham GC in Staffordshire and for the first time we were playing a new format. Rather than a Greensomes on Day 1 followed by 2 rounds of individual Medal play, we played just 2 rounds as a Better Ball with a change of partners for the 2nd day. Out of our members who are all Warwickshire Seniors we put in 2 teams, 4 in each team and the golf was highly competitive!

The sun shone for 2 days (which after the previous 2 years was a definite bonus!) the course was in good condition and, although challenging, a very fair test of our golf! The dinner on the first night at the club was excellent and the singer who was arranged to entertain us was amazing! She has a fantastic voice, sang songs from the 40s and 50s (puzzled looks on the faces of our younger team members!) She was also very amusing and if anyone is looking for an act for a party or their golf clubs, we would all definitely recommend her! Lola Lamour is her stage name.
But back to the golf! Prizes are for gross and nett scores, each day and overall. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to win any prizes this year although Team 2 were only one point from achieving 3rd nett.

However Jenny, playing for the first time was Nearest the Pin on day 2 at 80cms!
We do run a competition amongst ourselves which Carol organised this year for best nett day 1, best nett day 2 and best nett overall team and results as follows:
Day 1: Carol O'Hare & Hilary DIxon
Day 2: Hilary Dixon & Pat Hale
Overall best team: Warwickshire 2
Bit of a common link in there Hilary!
It was all brilliantly organised by Claire Howells and she is taking over from me as the Warwickshire Rep in November and I know will be encouraging lots of those aged 50 years + to join next year. Competitions are spread across the Midlands area so although perhaps a distance away, the very best courses are usually found well in advance. Every year posters for the MSWGA are included in the club envelopes at the Warwickshire AGM and all contact details are on there. Otherwise contact Claire or me regarding membership.
The event is not a Warwickshire Seniors event and not financially supported by the county but every year we manage to put in 2 teams and are very proud of playing for Warwickshire in our Warwickshire colours. Many thanks to all who played and plans are already afoot for next year which will be at Aspley Guise & Woburn Sands.
