Series 2 of the Warwickshire Girls Stableford Series took place on the 29 June at Leamington & County GC on a very hot and steamy day. As the rounds progressed, the day became hotter which made an already hilly course really challenging, but you would not have known it from some remarkable scoring!
Ten girls entered the 18 hole competition, although one withdrew on the day, but the scores were outstanding considering the conditions. Jessica Davies and Arisha Virik tied with 39 points with Jess winning by one point on the back 9 countback! In 3rd place with 38 points was Amelie Stead, 4th place with 37 points was Emilia Sadler and tied on 36 points, Lily Knee and Lauren Clarke.
All 9 girls showed real character in carrying on in those conditions and we were incredibly impressed with their commitment.
Four girls entered the 9 hole handicap competition with again some amazing scores! Three girls came in with 19 points and it again went to countback with Grace Hemmings in 1st place, Amelia Crawford in 2nd place and Georgia Pagett in 3rd place. Well done to all four of you for battling on!
In the Futures competition for those who have not yet gained a WHS handicap but playing the full 9 hole course off the Red tees, Dottie Howe won, beating Mairi MacLeod. I am sure both these girls will have full handicaps by the end of the year.
My thanks to Leamington & County Golf club for allowing us use of the course but in particular the wonderful support from Tracey Livingstone the Lady Captain and Roger who acted as starter for the 2nd week running!
With one more Stableford to go in September at North Warwickshire GC, the points are close before we get an outright winner!
