Warwickshire Girls Stableford Series finishes in fine style!

The Warwickshire Girls Stableford Series concluded at Rugby Golf Club on Friday 1 September on a very welcome warm and calm day!

The course looked in immaculate condition although the girls found the speed of the greens a little tricky, but overall there were some very good scores. Many of the girls have reduced their handicaps dramatically this year and they are learning that they can’t always score 40+ points!

In the 18 hole competition a clearly surprised and delighted Isabelle Toon (Stonebridge Golf Club) won with an excellent 34 points with Arisha Virik (Kenilworth Golf Club) putting in another great performance scoring 31 points. In 3rd place with another consistent round was Lauren Clarke (Ladbrook Park Golf Club) with 30 points.

In the 9 hole competition for those with handicaps, Georgina Porter-Worrall (The Warwickshire Golf & Country Club) had another good round in these competitions scoring 16 points beating Lola Beer (Olton Golf Club) into 2nd place. Both these girls have told me that they will be playing 18 holes next year which is great news!

In the Futures Competition, Molly Ford (Coventry Golf Club) and Emilia Sadler (Moor Hall Golf Club) again chose to play 9 holes off the red tees in order to put another card in for their WHS handicap. Having battled it out against each other in Series 2 this time Molly was the winner scoring an excellent 19 points and beating Emilia by one shot! For those that know Rugby golf club, if you could have seen both their drives on the 1st tee sailing over the hedge, you would still have a smile on your face!

The winner of the series will be announced at the Pre Season Meeting in March with the best 2 scores out of the 3 scoring points dependent on winning positions at each event.

Rugby Golf Club was as ever, hugely supportive of the girls and my thanks go to Andrew Leech for allowing us courtesy of the course. The speed of play particularly of the first group out of Arisha Virik and Jessica Davies playing 9 holes in an hour and a quarter impressed everyone. My particular thanks to Sarah Green, Rugby Vice Captain who played a large part in the planning and chaperoned a group of girls on the course, together with Helen, Sue and Hazel who also acted as Starter.

My thanks as ever to Elizabeth Earnshaw for her support at all of these events. Venues have already been arranged for next year and we are looking forward to visiting Sutton Coldfield, Shirley and Stonebridge Golf Clubs and of course to seeing all the girls again!
