Boys Under 16s v Staffordshire - Match Report
Warwickshire Under 16’s versus Staffordshire ( 1st League Game 2023)
Eventually the under 16s got to play a league match, not quite at full strength however team selected to face Staffordshire was follows:

Jake Frearson (Nuneaton)
After our standard bacon rolls and coffee, l asked Graham Barton if he would announce all players onto the first tee which as always he kindly obliged .
First match out in foursomes, Callum Lee & Alfie Mitchell would make a slow start to this one and be all square through 4 holes. The Warwickshire pair would win the 5th hole to go 1up and would remain the 1up all the way to the 15th hole where they would birdie to go 2up with 3 to play. They would then win the 16th with a par to close this one out 3&2
Our second match Freddy and Jack would get off to a flyer with Jack hitting his second shot into Coventry's Par 5 first hole to just 4 inches. They would continue to pile the pressure on going 3 up through 4 holes this was a very good quality match to watch. Warwickshire would go 5up through 7 and go on to win the match by a 5&4 margin.
Third match out was Miles and Alfie who held their own for 4 holes but would then go 2 down through 8. They would keep battling getting back to 1 down through 12 but eventually end up losing their match 3&2.
Fourth match out was Joey & Monty this again was a very tight match being all square through 5 holes. They would lose the 8th hole to go 1 down and then the 12th to go 2 down. Fighting back the Warwickshire pair would win 13 and 14 to level the tie, however Staffordshire were not to be denied int this one and would end with a 2 & 1 victory.
The last match of the morning was not going to plan for Warwickshire despite the best efforts of Jake & Armaan. They were to fall behind early and never really got going, ending up losing 6&5.
Going into lunch it was a half time score of Staffordshire 3 Warwickshire 2.
Match 1 Freddy Montgomery would fly out the blocks going 3 up through 4 and would continue to keep the pressure on his opponent with some lovely golf, eventually winning 3&2.
Match 2 Alfie Smith very similar story to match 1, Alfie was also 3 up through 4 and maintaining this cushion for the entire round he would win 3&2.
Match 3 Jack Hewitson was in a very tight match with both players playing great golf. The we never more than a hole in this one until late on Jack won a back to back holes to go dormie 3 up. Harry from Staffordshire bravely won both 16 and 17 but Jack held his nerve on the last to seal the 1up win for Warwickshire.
Match 4 would go to Staffs with Callum coming up against one of Staffordshire's best players in Ronnie Groves, losing 6&5.
The next 4 matches would all go in favour of Warwickshire with a special mention to ALFIE SMITH. Who came from 4 down to win his match.
Monty Fincher ,Miles Pegg ,and Joey Williams would all record wins to seal the match for Warwickshire.
The last two matches on the course would go the way of Staffordshire, but it was a fantastic result after being slightly behind at lunch.
