Stunning Scores at Series 2 of the Warwickshire Girls Stableford Series 2nd July!

On a breezy but rain free day at Stratford Oaks Golf Club on Sunday 2 July, the girls who took part in this second Stableford competition of the year showed how hard they have worked at their games producing some amazing scores!

In the 18 hole competition, Arisha Virik (Kenilworth Golf Club) was the clear winner with an impressive 42 points which included many nett birdies!

Erin Thompson (Copt Heath Golf Club) was equally delighted as runner up scoring an excellent 38 points which on any other day could have won.

Bethany Hobbs (The Warwickshire Golf & Country Club) was not disappointed with a very good 37 points to take 3rd place with Lauren Clarke (Ladbrook Park Golf Club) 4th scoring 35 points.

In the 9 hole competition for those who do not feel they are quite ready to play a full 18 holes, we were again delighted as the results came in from the four players in this category.

Georgina Porter-Worrall (The Warwickshire Golf & Country Club) took 1st prize with a superb 24 points just beating both Sophie Williams (Copt Heath Golf Club) and Lola Beer (Olton Golf Club) with 23 points.

In the last group of players who are in our Future Girls category for those without WHS handicaps, it was an exciting day for us as all three girls elected to play a full 9 holes off the red tees wanting to put cards in towards gaining their handicaps.

Emilia Sadler (Moor Hall Golf Club) took first place with an amazing 25 points!

Seren Hylton (Moor Hall Golf Club) and Molly Ford (Coventry Golf Club) also scored well but what impressed us most was that all three girls were determined to complete the 9 holes. The future looks in good hands!

Our very grateful thanks go to Stratford Oaks Golf Club for allowing us use of the course, but my particular thanks go to Lady Captain Sally Crompton, for her help throughout and to Veronica and Lindsey who together with Sally very kindly walked with the groups on the course. My thanks also to Judith, Ileen and Sheila from Stratford on Avon Golf Club who also acted as chaperones on the course and to Mary Hawkins for helping the girls with any rules issues.

As ever, the support from Elizabeth Earnshaw with scoring was invaluable, but a big thank you goes to Skye Furnace, Warwickshire Ladies Captain, who came to start the girls off but seemed to enjoy herself so much that she stayed all day, culminating in presenting all the prizes!

The Girls Championships is on Friday 11 August at Nuneaton Golf Club and for the first time this will be held in conjunction with the Boys Championships. Girls can enter either the 36 hole or 18 hole event and includes under 18, under 16 and under 14 age group championships for the first 18 holes played. Lots of trophies to win!  Entry is now open at www.warwickshiregolf.com.
