Warwickshire Boys & U16 Boys Championship 1st August at Stratford on Avon GC

Superb win for Ryan Gavin

A sunny day welcomed the boys playing in this years Championships. The Stratford on Avon golf course was in magnificent condition (well worth a visit if you've never played the course). The first round scores saw Ryan Gavin (Coventry GC) tied at the top of the gross leaderboard with Finley Stokes (Atherstone GC) both scoring 70 gross, with Thomas Poole (Coventry Hearsall GC) and Elliott Clarkson (Edgbaston GC) both on 74. All to play for in the second rounds. However, it was young Ryan who took the Overall Champion title thanks to a second round 72, winning by 4. Finley finished second on 146 (70/76) with Louis Taylor scoring a fine 72 to clinch the third place on 147 (75/72). Ryan achieved double success by also winning the Boys Under 16 Championship as well. This year a best nett prize was given and although Jack Pedley (Olton GC) scored a magnificent 134 (66/68) as he was awarded the 4th place voucher (being a much higher value- this is a gross championship) and Louis Taylor scored 141 (72/69)  (again he was awarded the 3rd place voucher overall which again was a much higher value) so nett prize went to Alfie Smith (Coventry Hearsall GC) 142(74/68). Congratulations to Coventry Hearsall GC members Channon James, Lennon O'Neill-Knibbs and Thomas Poole who won the team championship with an aggregate score of 467.

A big thank you to Stratford on Avon GC for allowing the county to use the course and clubhouse for this championship. The service provided by the club was first class. Thank you also to the Club Captain David Chesney.

Final thanks must go to the parents who 'Taxi' the players to the event, without them we couldn't run these events and last but not least to all the county officials who played their part in making this a great day for all who took part, thank you.
