Warwickshire Seniors kicked off the 2022 season with a very tricky fixture away to Leicestershire and Rutland. It was the perfect opportunity to try some potential pairings for our forthcoming league matches, and also introduce new players to The Team. Dylan Ward (Shirley GC) John Lawrence (Sutton Coldfield GC) and Phil Murphy (Handsworth GC) all made debuts for The County.
The morning Greensomes were very tightly contested as our players came to terms with a course which required accuracy and respect. There were wins for Young & Gardner, Neale & Calvert and Henderson and Soen.
Morning Greensomes Result:
Warwickshire Won 3 matches and Lost 3.
Warwickshire 3 points – Leicestershire and Rutland 3 points.
With the same pairings order for the afternoon Fourballs, Warwickshire had to capitalize on the experience of the course gained in the morning Greensomes. Charnwood Forest is a nine hole course with very different tee positions creating a very challenging and enjoyable test of golf. Warwickshire managed to secure 5 wins out of 6 in the afternoon session with our President holing out from 10 feet for a birdie on the last to secure a win with all looking on from The Clubhouse.
Afternoon Fourball Result:
Warwickshire Won 5 matches and Lost 1.
Warwickshire 10 points – Leicestershire and Rutland 2 points.
The overall result therefore was a Warwickshire win 13 points to 5 points.

Our next fixture is on the 16th May at Shrewsbury Golf Club where we will be facing a tough game against Shropshire and Herefordshire. Thank you to The Board for allowing us to play a practice round prior to this fixture which will undoubtedly help in our preparation.
Finally, Warwickshire Seniors held our Spring Meeting at Walmley Golf Club on 28th April 2022. Thirty two players attended, and a Better Ball format was chosen, again to give a ‘work out’ to possible pairings for the season. I am pleased to officially announce the winners on the day.
