LADIES COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP 2022

DAY ONE

The Ladies’ County Championship 2022 got under way on Wednesday 4th May after a 3 year interruption. The early rain soon moved away and the course at Moor Hall beckoned. The Greens staff should be complimented on the presentation of the course which looked very inviting. Three competitions were being played on the first day, the County Championship qualifying 36 holes, Senior Championship played over 18 holes and the Silver Division Medal.

After the first round, the rain swept in again, making it more challenging for the 18 ladies who played a second round to qualify for the County Championship match play knockout. The knockout, beginning on 5th May, is made up of the best 16 players from the 36 holes.

The Silver Division Medal competition over 18 holes was played by all 46 entrants, the winner being the lady with the best net score.

29 ladies who were 50 and over on 4th May played for the Senior Championship, the best gross over 18 holes.

The Senior Championship was won by Lisa Barton with a gross score of 71. The Silver Division Medal was won by Claire Howells with a net score of 73.

Longest Dive was won by Arianna Virik, Nearest the pin won by Holly Elliott and Nearest the Pin in two by Marie Swindells.

DAY TWO

On the second day of the Championship, the sun shone brightly, everyone had dried out, and were ready for their first round of match play. The matches in the quarter finals in the afternoon were closely fought, with the greens offering plenty of challenges.

DAY THREE

After 2 days rest, the four semifinalists, Hannah Coles, Arianna Virik, Zara Houghton and Emma Morton were ready to show what they could do. Both semi finals were tightly fought and very exciting to watch,  with Zara beating Emma on the 18th and Hannah chipping in from the bunker for a birdie on the 20th hole, beating Arianna. After 2 days rest, the four semifinalists, Hannah Coles, Arianna Virik, Zara Houghton and Emma Morton were ready to show what they could do. At the afternoon Final, we witnessed splendid golf from Hannah and Zara. The sun shone and the backdrop of Moor Hall Golf Club was fitting for these two girls. There had to be a winner and it was Zara  who beat Hannah 4 and 3. Well done, both. Warwickshire’s finest.
