Glorious Day for Joyce Nichol Trophies Competition

Sixty-two ladies entered the Joyce Nichol Trophies competition played in silver and bronze divisions, as well as nearest the pin and longest drives for both - there was a lot to play for! The competition is an individual stablefordS, based on handicap indexes of 20.4 or less in the silver division, and 20.5 - 45 in the bronze.

The event was held at Coventry Hearsall on Monday, 20th September, and from the start of the day, the sun shone, and it remained with us for the whole event.

Hearsall ladies supported the competition by offering two lovely gentlemen (John Kennel and Mel Hessetine) as our starters, and Mel gave a lovely pen to each of the longest drives in each of the 3 balls on the 1st tees - the ladies loved them! Hearsall ladies also provided helpers (Tina Platt and Cath Ward) for the ball sweep and food orders through the able Captaincy of Ann Hawkeswood and our very own Lesley Duff (a Hearsall member) and we are very grateful for all of their support on the day, alongside the Hearsall club staff who even supplied brass to clean the trophies (thank you Frances!) as well as keeping us all fed and watered throughout.

Everyone remarked on the lovely food served (thank you, Gary and staff) and the condition of the course, apart from the pins which were tucked away in the most difficult of places!!

This was perhaps reflected in the scoring, with the winner of the Silver Division, Sonja Castle-Mott from Kenilworth, with 36 points, and Alison Chappell from Whitefields, with 35 points winning the Bronze Division, just beating Georgina Kennett from Maxstoke, after count back.

Results were:

Silver Division
Sonja Castle-Mott, Kenilworth, (36 points)
Liz Moverley, Copt Heath (33 points)
Jenny Rattlidge, Harborne (32 points) on count back.

Bronze Division
Alison Chappell, Whitefields (35 points) on count back
Georgina Kennett, Maxstoke Park (35 points)
June Oldham, Coventry Hearsall (34 points)

Longest drive for Silver was Mary Fraise (Harborne)
Longest drive for Bronze division was Debbie Poynton (Shirley)
Nearest the pin for Bronze was Sarah Lay (Harborne)
