Seniors win away at Norwood Park

I have mentioned in most of my Match Reports this year that Warwickshire Seniors have consistently put out strong pairings, and this fixture was no exception. Although we had a few of our top order missing, the team was certainly not under powered. Russell Barker from Coventry Golf Club made his first appearance for The Seniors and paid back his selection by winning with his partner (our President) Mark Reynolds both morning and afternoon. There were welcome returns to The Seniors for Laurence Greatley (Sutton Coldfield GC) and Peter Gordon (Olton GC) who both contributed points to the scoreboard. As nobody from The Warwickshire Team had previously played at Norwood Park, understandably scoring in the morning was tough. However, the last two pairs (Reynolds /Barker and Soen/Gordon) managed to secure wins, together with a hard fought halved match from our top pairing, Mason/Fell. This resulted in Warwickshire being one point behind at lunch.
Morning Greensomes Result: Warwickshire Won 2 matches, halved 1 and Lost 3.
Warwickshire 2.5 points - Nottinghamshire 3.5 points.
With the same pairings order for the afternoon Fourballs, Warwickshire had to capitalize on the experience of the course gained in the morning Greensomes. Our top order delivered wins in Matches 1 and 2. This was followed by a halved Match 3 and further wins in Match 4 and 5. A comprehensive display in the afternoon session, which also gave me the chance to play a couple of possible pairings for the forthcoming County Finals.
Afternoon Fourball Result: Warwickshire Won 4 matches, halved 1 and Lost 1.
Warwickshire 9 points - Nottinghamshire 3 points.
The overall result therefore was a Warwickshire win 11.5 points to 6.5 points.
Our thanks to Norwood Park Golf Club for hosting us and providing outstanding food through out the day.
This was our last competitive match before the County Finals and has given us some valuable impetus going into what is going to be a very demanding and challenging few days at Grange Park Golf Club 5th-7th October. I am sure The Team will appreciate any support from those wanting to spend a day or so cheering on Warwickshire Seniors at The Final next month.
As a summary for our match performances this year; we have been dominant both home and away in all our fixtures, except one.
Home: Won 2 (Shropshire and Herefordshire / Northamptonshire)
Lost 1 Worcestershire
Away: Won 3 (Staffordshire / Derbyshire / Nottinghamshire)
Lost 0
Honours: Midlands Senior County Team Championship Winners 2021
We will be looking to further improve next year. But before we get there, we have our sights firmly fixed on what's immediately ahead of us at Grange Park.
