Girls County Championship at Stratford Oaks on Friday 30 July 2021

The day dawned damp and stormy and the rain steadily got heavier as the day progressed.   The ladies of Stratford Oaks and all the staff were so welcoming and helpful and Lady Captain Elizabeth Hunter spent the whole day at the Club to ensure a smooth running of events.

Although the competition was intended to be 36 Holes, in the end due to the greens flooding we had to settle for an 18 hole Championship.   We had to bring the girls in, let them dry off, and feed them lunch.   The Course Manager then advised us that we had a one and a half hour window to send the girls out to complete their rounds.

Each group of girls was accompanied by a WLCGA official and our thanks go to Bobbi Waugh, WLCGA President, Skye Furnace, Rahela Gordon and Claire Barker for braving the elements and coming in completely soaked.

Katie Drew from Copt Heath won the Gross Championship with a score of 79 and runner up was Arianna Virik from Kenilworth with a score of 80 .    Arianna also won the net competition with a score of 73.

In the girls Age Group Championship for girls not entered in the 36 hole competition, the winner was Serafima Taylor from Walmley with a score of 88 gross and Lily Knee from Leamington & County won the net with a score of 75

In the Under 16 and the Under 14 competitions the winner of both gross and net was Arianna Virik of Kenilworth so Arianna ended the day with 4 Trophies.

Congratulations to all the girls for playing in such awful weather and still smiling at the end
