Our first Non League fixture of this years campaign gave us an opportunity to play pairings that could stand us in good stead for the forthcoming critical league games. Even though some of the league players were away on other duties, the side we were able to field was both strong and very experienced. Moor Hall stalwarts Mason and Calvert led out the morning Greensomes for Warwickshire and duly returned the first win, followed by wins from Cooley/Neale, Sheard/Soen and Hathaway/Guest. Colin Guest was playing his first seniors county game following his impressive performance in the Warwickshire Seniors Championship earlier in the month.
Morning Greensomes Result:
Warwickshire Won 4 matches and Lost 2.
Warwickshire 4 points - Northants 2 points.
With the same pairings order for the afternoon Fourballs, Northants came out and took the first match of the session beating Mason and Calvert in a high quality tussle. Warwickshire then showed its strength in depth and won 9 of the remaining 10 points available.
Afternoon Fourball Result:
Warwickshire Won 4 matches, halved 1 and Lost 1. Warwickshire 9 points - Northants 3 points.
The overall result therefore was a winning margin of 13 points to 5 points.
Another very satisfying result for Warwickshire Seniors. This will definitely give us selection options for our fixture against Worcestershire with so many of the team delivering positive results.
Our thanks go out to Moor Hall Golf Club for giving us an incredibly well presented course to play on with testing but fair pin positions. To all the staff, in particular, Marina and Rosie who took a lot of time and trouble to make sure we were well looked after, this was endorsed by the whole of the Northants Team.
Congratulations to my team who consistently show an eagerness and desire to represent their County, lets hope we can continue with the great start we have had to the 2021 season.
