Our second league match took us to South Staffordshire Golf Club. With a slightly different line up to the previous match, we fielded another strong team with a further new addition, Shaun Young of Copsewood Grange, who proved to be a very worthy selection. In total now, seven new players have represented Warwickshire Seniors this season giving an indication of the strength in depth we now possess.
The morning foursomes were led off by Tony Allen and Kevin Henderson both of Maxstoke Park, they came up against formidable opposition and sadly lost out to Bob Aston and Roger Humphreyson. The next four matches all went the way of Warwickshire, giving us a lead after the morning matches.
Morning Foursome Result:
Warwickshire Won 4 matches and Lost 2.
Staffordshire 2 points – Warwickshire 4 points.
The afternoon fourball better ball matches got underway and through nine holes the matches were close in three, Warwickshire comfortable in two and down in one. Our strength showed down the final stretch and we finished the afternoon winning the session.
Afternoon Fourball Result:
Warwickshire Won 3 matches, halved 1 and Lost 2.
Staffordshire 5 points – Warwickshire 7 points.
The overall result therefore was a winning margin of 11 points to 7 points.
The interesting thing to note is that in both of our opening fixtures Warwickshire has won both the morning and afternoon sessions, this should give us confidence going into our next league match versus Worcestershire.
Our thanks to South Staffordshire Golf Club who looked after us and kept us safe during the day, and to The Course Manager who presented a golf course in immaculate condition.
