Seniors Strong against Shropshire

Our first league match took place two days after the lifting of the latest level of lockdown restrictions which enabled entry to Golf Clubhouses. On this point, both teams were extremely grateful to the staff at Sutton Coldfield Golf Club who observed and ensured safe access to the facilities and also catered for all our requirements in such a professional manner. Thanks also go out to Chris Roberts, Course Manager at Sutton, who presented the course in magnificent condition for the day.

Both sides fielded strong teams and formidable pairings for the opening Foursomes. Warwickshire had five new, but not unfamiliar faces making their senior debuts, namely;

Warren Bladon, Steve Creed, Andrew Sheard, Kevin Henderson and Ken Spencer.

Morning Foursome Result:

Warwickshire Won 3 matches, Halved 2 and Lost 1

Warwickshire 4 points – Shropshire and Herefordshire 2points

The afternoon fourball better ball matches got under way with Warren Bladon and Dave Mason leading off for Warwickshire. With quality throughout the order, I am pleased to report that Warwickshire prevailed in 5 out of the 6 afternoon matches.

Afternoon Fourball Result:

Warwickshire Won 5 matches and Lost 1

Warwickshire 10 points – Shropshire and Herefordshire 2 points

The overall result therefore was a very satisfying winning margin of 14 points to 4 points.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our President Mark Reynolds for all his support on the day, to the caddies that gave that extra boost to a couple of our players. Also, to the squad players who did not play, but travelled to Sutton Coldfield to support The Team…. All this makes a massive difference and long may it continue!

Finally, my personal thanks to my players, we have an enviable group of talent within The Seniors and a positive comradery that will hopefully hold us in good stead for the rest of the season.

The next League Fixture is : Staffordshire away at South Staffordshire GC ….7th June 2021.

Rob Soen

Warwickshire Seniors Captain.
