2021 Season is underway

Today we had both the Boys group coaching at Stratford Oaks and the U14s Academy get together at Copsewood Grange. Thank you to both courses for providing us with their facilities.

I am really pleased after the 14 month hiatus through Covid to be able to say “the 2021 season is now well underway”.

10 of our Boys had a coaching day with Andy Dunbar, Rich Glenn and Tom Whitehouse. Oddly though it was neither -5 degrees or raining (the days of seeing Rich stood in the middle of the driving range with the rain coming in sideways, oh how we missed that (NOT).

Super day, great to see how the boys have / are progressing with the short game being the main focus area for future practice sessions.

Then 21 of our U14s played 8 holes at Copsewood Grange as a squad get together. Thank you all that attended and parents who stayed and watched socially distanced of course.

Welcome to the new boys. I hope you enjoyed your first experience of County golf and that we see you again.

The month of May brings lots of activities.

We focus now on the Boys 6’s at Ashbourne (England Boys Regional qualifiers early June) and have practice rounds arranged.  This is the pinnacle of Boys golf, win this and we reach the National Final. Good luck to the Boys selected.

Our U16 team get their first match v Leicestershire and Rutland (as a friendly) over at Rugby.  Team Manager, Simon Taylor, has selected the side with the hope of getting the season off to a good start with a strong result. Good luck boys!

The U14’s Coaching at Stonebridge precedes their first match v Shropshire and Herefordshire.  Team Manager, Richard Storer, will select and notify the boys for the team in the coming weeks.

Warwickshire Junior Order of Merit organiser, Steve Jackson, spoke to many of the boys at Copsewood. Steve is promoting and administering the Boys Junior Order of Merit (JOOM) this year. Specific events that are included in the JOOM are the Warwickshire Boys County Championships (U18, U16, U14, U12) and a number of Club run Junior Opens.  Please look out for the newsletter from Steve with more information and visit the website https://progressjuniorgolf.com/

Any one playing in National events, regional events, county events and even you’re local club matches and championships, or perhaps you’ve shot you’re best ever round (hey Mr 8under Ryan 😊)  or Sam and Jake winning their age groups at the recent Robert Rock tour event!…. Lets get Social.  Lets shout about and congratulate the many achievements of our boys across the county. For those on Twitter please follow and tag posts to @warksjnrgolf and the hashtag #TeamWarwickshire.

Congratulations and well done to Anthony Bridgeman who got his County kit a little earlier today.

Thank you to the coaches Andy Dunbar, Rich Glenn, Tom Whitehouse, Phil Akers and Aaron Lansberry and not forgetting our very own Stuart Bloxham,  who once again provided superb coaching and support to the boys across these sessions.

Our second Boys group have a weekend of coaching coming up in early June.

Thank you to many of the County Union board. President, Past Presidents, Chairman all who turned out to offer their support.  We are very fortunate in Warwickshire to have a board who are not just interested in Boys golf but ask to be actively involved and support. Long may that continue.

Finally, as always, Thank you to the parents. Without you none of this works. Your commitment, your time and from personal experience the money you have / will invest….THANK YOU.

The future is bright.  The future is definitely Warwickshire!
