Under 14 Boys Squad Day

On Sunday 20th September 2020, we had our first U14s squad get together for the 2021 season at Copsewood Grange Golf Club.

In these unprecedented times, it was fantastic to be able to welcome the boys and their supportive parents to an event, that for many of the boys was there first experience of being part of Warwickshire.

In a change to previous years, the U14 group were able to welcome some younger boys from the U12 Futures group, so in total we had 19 boys taking part.

The event itself was played over 9 holes at Copsewood and thanks to the creativity of coaches Phil Akers and Aaron Lansberry, the boys were set a different fun challenges on each hole.

These included Texas drive, Trackman hole, penalties for missing targets, bonuses for hitting targets and even forfeits for taking 3 putts on the certain holes.

It was a fun way of getting the boys to focus their minds and think differently about how you can tackle the game of golf.

The weather was kind to us and each of the boys below who attended the day, demonstrated good technique and we look forward to watching their progress in the years to come.

In addition to the boys above, Cameron Coxall and Joshua Gardner (who was playing in an event of the British Junior Golf Tour) complete the U14 - 2021 squad.

As ever, these events do not just happen and a big thank you goes out to Aaron and Phil for giving their time to support the event.

They are both a fantastic addition to the Warwickshire coaching set up and their innovative styles, enthusiasm and approach to the game will help support the development of the boys.

It was also great to see Mark Reynolds (President), Bob Harrison(Chairman), Graham Barton (Past President) and Simon Taylor (U16 manager) showing their support on Sunday to the boys.

To have such senior officials from the county, demonstrates the importance of the U14 & U12 futures group to the future of Warwickshire Golf.

I would also like to pass on my thanks to Richard Clark (Head of Boys golf) for organising the day, whilst I find my feet!

Finally, on behalf of myself, Aaron and Phil, we would like to say a big thanks you to John Breslin and his team at Copsewood, who went out of their way to make us all feel very welcome.

It is clearly challenging times, but they made us all feel safe and presented an excellent and challenging course for the boys to play on.

All being well and Covid restrictions permitting, we will return to Copsewood on the 18th October 2020 for the next get together with the boys.

Richard Storer (U14 manager)
