BACK TO BACK COUNTY SUCCESS FOR LISA BARTON

Lisa Barton from Coventry Golf Club successfully retained her crown by winning the Warwickshire Ladies Championship with rounds of 72, 74 over the Somers/Hampton and Blythe/Somers courses at Stonebridge Golf Club.

The runner-up was 17 year old Zara Houghton from Copt Heath with rounds of 76, 77 with 16 year old Katie Drew also from Copt Heath on 82, 74.

It was a day to celebrate the development of girls golf in Warwickshire as 12 year old Maisie Halstead from Kenilworth took the 18 holes Silver Medal trophy with a superb round of 78 gross, net 68.

Claire Howells from Moor Hall won the Seniors Championship with a gross 78.

This year’s event took a different format in view of the pandemic following its postponement in May and was changed to a 36 hole stroke-play event from the usual 36 hole qualifier and matchplay championship to enable competitors who had returned to school and college or perhaps had been furloughed from work to only take one day off for the event, which was organized under strict Covid-19 regulations.

Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to all the competitors who took part together with help from Elizabeth Earnshaw, Veronique Lintin, Lesley Duff and referees Claire Barker and Mary Childs.

Our thanks are also extended to Stonebridge Golf Club for rearranging the date and for making the event possible in order to celebrate golf in Warwickshire for 2020.
