Our congratulations go to Maxstoke Park's Steve Creed who made a very impressive debut in last week's English Senior Amateur Championship at Woodhall Spa when finishing tied for second place, alongside seasoned English Internationals Ian Attoe from Worplesdon and Trevor Foster from Accrington and District.
The event which featured play around both courses at Woodhall Spa, the Bracken and the Hotchkin, attracted 139 of the country's best senior amateur golfers and Steve's rounds of 74, 76 and 73 saw him finish 3 shots behind winner and yet another England International Rupert Kellock from Sunningdale.
Steve began the final round 5 shots adrift of defending champion and three time winner Attoe, who led alongside Andrew Smith from Royal Ashdown Forest. With the whole field playing at a baked and windswept Hotchkin course for the final round, Steve's score of level par 73 saw him rise up the leaderboard.
The ever-popular Maxstoke Park player, originally from Lancashire, has been a constant in and around Warwickshire teams for a number of years now and he will already be looking forward to next years event which is to be held at Blackmoor Golf Club and Army Golf Club in Hampshire.
