UPDATE from Warwickshire Golf Union

Following a meeting earlier this week, the Board of the Warwickshire Union of Golf Clubs made the difficult decision to cancel all County fixtures for 2020.

We have chosen to cancel rather than look to reschedule our 60 of so events which is a decision that we haven’t made lightly and we are sorry for any inconvenience this will have caused any of you. We will of course be refunding any tournament entries fees in full that we have received this year to date.

There are numerous reasons behind the decision but at the heart of it was what we felt would benefit our Clubs most and that a clear decision would help to gain some clarity at a time when everything is so uncertain.

Once this pandemic has passed, we are well aware that our 45 Clubs and their members will be wanting to gain every advantage they can, to get courses open and Clubs thriving once more. Quite rightly, they will be wanting to give their membership all the access they can to the course, a flurry of Club events and competitions will be rescheduled and there will also be hope of greenfees and society days.

With this in mind, we don’t wish to stand in the way of these efforts by requesting new dates or taking up time on the course that could be used to benefit the Clubs more than our events would. We do hope however that our tournament venues that were hosting our events in 2020 will be keen to have the same fixture played over their course in 2021.

We have heard that many of you continue to support your Club during this difficult time by renewing your subscriptions which is fantastic to hear. Afterall, if we have no Clubs we have no golf once restrictions are lifted.

Please stay safe and we look forward to welcoming you to our events again in 2021.
