Warwickshire Golf News 2020 - Week 3

Ladbrook Park

A birdie four on the closing hole capped an excellent performance from Liam Scagell in the opening Junior Winter League of the year at Ladbrook Park as he took the honours with a nine-hole tally of 20 points. Louis Taylor finished runner-up, while Emma Thornell was the highest placed girl.

Bramcote Waters

Garry Bickley, Ben Wykes and Pete Mihailovic were the three divisional winners in the January Medal at Bramcote Waters after posting scores of 37, 39 and 38 points respectively.

A birdie on the opening hole sent Bickley on his way to a four point success in the top category, Wykes finished five ahead of Bill Bones in the second section, while Mihailovic’s victory margin was three over high-handicappers Robert Bassett and Stuart Wright.

Windmill Village

The first full 18-hole competition of the season at Windmill Village saw Phil Burke triumph by one from Geoff Clarke in the Winter Stableford with a score of 43 points.

North Warwickshire

Steve Law and Geoff Pye grabbed the first prizes in the two divisions of the North Warwickshire January Stableford after carding 38 and 39 points respectively.

Law kept the big numbers off his scorecard as he edged one ahead of Nigel Paul and Brian Jones in the top section, while Pye’s birdie on the opening hole sent the 15-handicapper on the way to a two point victory from Neil Sierzega.

Pype Hayes

Marie Pagett collected her first win of the year as she secured a three shot success from Christine Drayton in the latest Ladies Nine-hole Eclectic competition.

Stoneleigh Deer Park

Mid-handicappers Martin Darbey and Tom Joyce compiled the two outstanding, and also contrasting, rounds of golf in the Winter Stableford as they secured the top two positions at Stoneleigh Deer Park.

Darbey had five gross birdies but no pars in his opening 10 holes before finding some consistency in a winning score of 42 points, while Joyce kept the big numbers off his card throughout the 18 holes as he finished one off the pace. Sandra Curtis was the leading lady.

Whitefields

David Gregory won the January Stableford at Whitefields by one point from slow starting Mark Tanner, while Ellis Roberts was successful in the Extra Stableford by three from Dean Baldock.

Wishaw

Michael Jones bagged 45 points in the Wishaw January Midweek Stableford as he finished three clear of Neil Bridges and Steve Young. Scoring wasn’t quite as good in the Extra Stableford the following day as Andrew Wosket compiled the best score of 37.
