Big group attend Boys Under-12's Trial

Warwickshire Golf Union have hailed the County Boys Under-12’s Trial as a huge success with just under 40 youngsters showing off their developing skills in two separate groups at The Belfry on Sunday.

With the aim of trying to find the next generation of County Boys and Men’s team players, the juniors had the opportunity to display their talents in 20-minute sessions on the range, putting green and chipping area.

County coaches Aaron Lansberry and Phil Akers are now expected to put together a list of the leading 12-14 boys who will be invited to attend monthly coaching sessions over spring and summer as part of the 2020 Futures Academy Programme.

Lansberry said: “All seemed to go really well. I have also had numerous messages from parents and children of how pleased they are for coming along. Thanks for everyone's support.”

Akers added: “It was an absolute pleasure because the boys loved the afternoon out. We are all very excited to get started with the squad.

“For those that did miss out, we are keen to stress that it doesn’t mean that we have forgotten about them - far from it.

“With the nine-hole category in the new County Junior Order of Merit coming up, we are going to be watching their progress very closely. So our advice is to get out there on the golf course, and have some fun.”
