Warwickshire Junior Girls were invited to attend the annual winter get together on Sunday, February 9th, 2020 at Kenilworth Golf Club.
We had a good turn out from the girls and parents despite the effects of storm Ciara. It was also great to have County 1st and 2nd Team representatives together with County Board and Committee members and our newly appointed County Coaches. Kelly Tomlinson welcomed everyone to the event and thanked everyone for making it over despite the awful weather.
Kelly then had the pleasure of introducing our new County Captain, Veronique Lintin. Veronique discussed the pathway of representing the County and also the importance of junior golf and that they are the future of Warwickshire ladies.
Veronique introduced Gareth Jenkins from England Golf who outlined the opportunities for players and encouraged them to improve their golf so that they are eligible to compete in regional and national competitions. Gareth also discussed the options after junior golf including golf scholarships in America.
The afternoon then went on to the new coaching programme and Kelly was delighted to introduce Alison Nicholas as the Lead Coach for WLCGA.
Alison introduced her newly appointed coaching team and gave a brief description of the new coaching programme including what the new sessions will cover and that the first session for the performance and development squads will include a fitness session with Ray Jakeman to educate the girls on the other aspects of the game. Alison went on to say how excited she was about the new programme, working with the girls and the newly appointed coaching team.
Kelly then introduced Steve Jackson a sports journalist who has been appointed by Warwickshire Golf to introduce a new format of the Order of Merit for Warwickshire boys and girls. Steve explained that he had implemented this for neighbouring counties and that the improvement in entries with his input had been extremely impressive.
Presentations were made to the players who had been successful during 2019 and these were warmly welcomed by the recipients and of course their parents
