NORTHWOOD IS 2019 CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS

The Warwickshire Champion of Champions event was recently held at The Forest of Arden over the Arden course.

In this event invites are sent to all 2019 Club Champions form Warwickshire Clubs and this year we had 22 Champions ready to take on the Arden course directly after the Seniors European Tour visit just two days before.

The Arden course is tough at any time of year, this difficulty can be highlighted in soft conditions which the scores generally show this in this event. This year four players managed to score 4 over par or better.

Tied for 4th place was Stoneleigh Deer Parks Champion, Nev Gardner and Jack Drury from Stratford upon Avon. Nev did get it to one under par briefly before gradually heading down to finish at 4 over par. Jack held on to 1 over par until the final four holes to finish level with Nev.

Taking the runner-up spot was John Paul Banbury from Moor Hall who fluttered between 1 and 2 under par to ultimately finish on level par for the tournament.

Our winner was Luke Northwood from Kenilworth who at one point was making the game look especially easy as he cruised to 5 under par after only 7 holes and although dropping a couple of shots bounced back to 5 under after 15 holes. After this Luke did suffer a few rocky holes which included a double bogey at the par 5 17th hole, thanks to a combination of soft greens and too much spin on the ball, but still managed to return a score of one under par and take the title.

We thank the team at The Forest of Arden again for hosting this event for the last seven years and we hope to be back next year to find our Champion of Champions for 2020.
