TWO IN A ROW FOR WALMLEY LADIES!

Back Row: Julia Newman & Gill Winstanley and Bev Fiddes & Sue Hart

Front Row:  Sheila Kane & Pat Hawthorn and Pauline Gibbon & Deb Reynolds

The final of the Inter Club Foursomes Knockout was played at Coventry Hearsall on Friday 27 September between the holders Walmley and The Warwickshire. Conditions were blustery to say the least but the rain mainly held off.  This final comes about after a summer of knockout matches played between golf clubs in Warwickshire.  The competition rules state that both matches have to be played to the finish with the winner resulting from the the team with the most holes won.

The first pairing out, Deb REYNOLDS and Sue HART from Walmley, playing against Pat HAWTHORN and Sheila KANE demonstrated some deadly putting and had a runaway success, finishing eight up by the 18th. The second pairing of Gill WINSTANLEY and Julie NEWMAN of The Warwickshire, playing against Bev FIDDES and Pauline GIBBON, finished one up but alas not quite enough the reduce the deficit, so an excellent result for Walmley winning seven up overall.  Thus Walmley have won this event two years in a row, well done to them.

Both teams felt the course played well, the contest was really sporting and they had thoroughly enjoyed the format. Pat from The Warwickshire said they felt proud to have made it to the finals and would have liked to have pushed Walmley harder but they were beaten by a better and more experienced team.

Many thanks were given to Karen Dodson for running the competition throughout.
