Seniors' President, Mark REYNOLDS presenting the Carl Bretherton Trophy to Vets' Captain, Gill THORPE
The annual match between the Warwickshire Seniors and Warwickshire Lady Vets saw this year's fixture played at Walmley Golf Club on Monday 23rd September. With the weather bright and sunny, but expected to change to wet weather later in the afternoon, both teams set off in high spirits and the desire to get in before the rains came. All of the 6 matches were keenly fought and with all the matches making it to at least the 15th green, the Lady Vets won by 4 matches to 2 to retain the Carl Bretherton Trophy and extend their winning run in this fixture to 3 matches.
The opening match saw the Lady pair of Carol O'Hare and Lady Vets President Liz Woolf playing quite splendidly in using their handicap shots to edge the match 3 and 2 against their male opponents who found it necessary to birdie holes just to get a half.
The second match saw the Seniors record a fine win to leave the match score tied at one win apiece, but with the Ladies winning matches 3,4 and 5 their team were over the winning line. Match 6 saw the Seniors restore some pride with the biggest win of the day. The match as always was played in a very friendly but competitive manner with members of Walmley Golf Club featuring for either side in five of the six matches.
Congratulations to Lady Vets Captain Gill Thorpe in her last match as Captain and all her players for their team's win. My thanks to my team for all their efforts but on the day we were second best.
Special mention must be made to Mick Deeley and Mike Ball from the host Club for stepping in at such short notice and also for registering a victory.
I would also like to thank Walmley Golf Club for their hospitality and warm welcome and providing us with such a very fine course in excellent condition on which to play.
As to next year I am sure that everyone is already looking forward to the rejoining of battle at Robin Hood Golf Club in September, when both teams will have new Captain's in charge.

Senior Captain
