Stratford Park hosted the second Under 16 league match of the season against Worcestershire on a wet and windy day.

The usual pairing of Alex and Seb led the way in the foursomes and soon gained control of their match. Playing some good golf in difficult conditions they were always in control and ran out 4&3 winners.

Sam and Charlie paired up for match two followed by Ollie and Chan. All four boys played excellent golf and Warwickshire were ahead early in both matches.

Sam and Charlie won their match 4&3 as did Chan and Ollie in the worsening weather.

Unfortunately at that point the weather turned and after a clap of thunder it was decided to call a halt to the remaining matches although they on,y had a few holes left to play. It was agreed that the results should stand so Lucas and Niall halved match four while Sam Knowles and Tom Poole won their match 3&2.

At the close of the morning play Warwickshire held a commanding 4.5 to 0.5 lead.

Before the singles began the forecast looked poor and we knew that it may be a struggle to complete all of the matches so we sent the boys out as early as we could.

Alex and Seb played in the first two matches and both boys were soon ahead.

Charlie went out third and was involved in a tough match against one his his morning opponents.

Sam Easterbrook was next followed by Chan.

Alex was certainly in form and won his match 4&2 with Seb winning by the same score.

Chan in match 5 had raced to big early lead and was first to finish winning 7&6.

Sam Easterbrook was not far behind him and won his match with plenty to spare.

During almost the whole of the afternoon the rain had been falling and after a wet morning the  course was struggling to cope. Charlie managed to finish his match all square giving Warwickshire  an unassailable lead but puddles had gathered on the greens and putting was now impossible.

The remaining matches had barely got through 9 holes so regrettably it was agreed to halve the remaining 5 matches.

The overall result was therefore 11.5 to 3.5 in favour of Warwickshire.

Our thanks go to Graham Barton and Richard Clark for their support and to Stratford Park for their efforts to keep the course playable for as long as they could.
