SENIORS COME 5th IN 6 MAN EVENT AT COXMOOR

Warwickshire Seniors came fifth yesterday in England Golf Seniors County Championships Midlands Qualifying at Coxmoor Golf Club in Nottinghamshire. After 36 holes of strokeplay the County finished 13 shots behind winners Lincolnshire. This six man team event where all ten Midland Counties feature, sees the best five scratch scores taken from the six scores submitted in the morning and then again the best five from six scores in the afternoon. Lincolnshire lived up to their pre tournament favourites tag to win with a team who's total combined handicap was just 6 and included 2 England Internationals.

The winners total of 765 was 8 shots better than the Shropshire & Herefordshire score of 773, with host county Nottinghamshire 3rd on 774, Staffordshire were a shot further back in 4th place with a total of 775. The Warwickshire score of 778 was followed by Northamptonshire with 783 and Leicestershire & Rutland with 796. Aside from winners Lincolnshire the position of the next 4 county's finish from 2nd to 5th was decided by just 5 shots.

Lincolnshire will represent the Midlands in the National Finals at Effingham Golf Club, Surrey from the 8th to the 10th of October 2019. They will compete in Surrey against the south west and south east champions respectively in Dorset and Sussex and will be joined by the winners from the northern region after their qualifier in September.

Next year's event which will be held at Peterborough Milton Golf Club on the 5th and 6th of August will see a change in format. The qualifier will still be played over 36 holes but rather than as now played in one day, 18 holes will be played on the Wednesday afternoon and the remaining 18 holes on the Thursday morning.
