The weather was set to be fine for the day, Kidderminster Golf Club was in great condition but it was still to be a tough contest.

Rhys ( Handsworth) and Ethan (Moor Hall) were out first against Worcestershires top two players, Jack Seven (Captain) and Evan Lewis. Playing solid golf the Warwickshire pair were 4 up after 9 and in control, but a spirited come back from the Worcestershire pair meant we were back to 1 up playing the last. Then with both teams birding the last we got our first point of the day.

Rocco ( Coventry ) & Alex ( Ladbrook) were out second and were 2 up at the turn and always in control, with some fine golf they increased their lead on the back nine to win 4&3.

Jacob ( The Warwickshire) & Seb Cave (The Belfry) birded early holes and were 2 up after 5, they won the ninth to go 3 up and held onto their lead finally winning 2&1.

Next out the all Belfry pair of Adam Perks & Luke Donnelly found themselves in a tight match and were 2 down at the turn. They were unable to make any inroads into the Worcs lead and the scores remained the same in the back nine which resulted in Worcs recording a 2&1 win.

Out last was our youngest pair Charlie (Hearsall) & Channon (Kenilworth) who were causing havoc in the last match as both of their putters were red hot. Charlie holed long put for birdie on the first and Channon an even longer one on the fourth. They were 2 up after 5 and 4 up after 9, finally winning 6&5,.

A great end to the morning play and a 4-1 lead going into the afternoon.

Rhys lead the team out in the afternoon against Jack. This was a match of 11 Birdies in all, Rhys was 2 down after 5 and 3 down after 9, he managed to get it back to 1 after 12 but good birdies from Jack at 14 and 16 resulted in a 3&2 loss.

Ethan provided the usual roller coaster ride of 3 up at the turn and in control but by the 15th his opponent had reduced his lead to 1 hole. Ethan managed to hold on and won the last to win 2 up.

Seb was always in control of his match 3 up after 5 and 5 up after 9 playing solid tee to green golf finally winning 5&4.

Luke  was also in control 2 up after 5 and 4 up after 9 he went onto cruise to victory 6&5 against a struggling Brandon. We now had a 7-2 lead, but thing were not going well on the course.

Adam was 5 down after 5 with Tom Newton 3 under, a chip in from off the green at 9 reduced the deficit to 4 but Adam was unable to get back into the match with Tom playing very good golf on the day and would finally lose 4&3.

Charlie also came up against an in form James Yorke and was 3 down after 5, he got it back to 2 down at the turn but that was the end of the comeback and James went onto win 5&4.

Channon out last raced into a 2 up lead after 9 but this game turned round quickly with James Bishop 2 up at the turn, Channon  was unable to get back into the game and was 4 down standing on the 15th tee the hole halved in three and a 4&3 defeat for Channon. The match score was not looking so good now we had a slender 7-5 lead but all eyes were focused on the remaining three matches on the course. Alex was 2 down at the turn and Jacob 3 down but hope was with Rocco at 2 up.

By 15 Rocco was now all square, Alex was back to 1 down playing Hugh Adam (the winner of the The Reid Trophy 2018) and Jacob 2 Down. Where was the final point going to come from? Alex playing great golf all day, got his match all square standing on the 18th tee only to lose the last and the match 1 down. This would have been a great match to watch with both players playing great golf.

Rocco who seems to like playing all 18 holes for some reason (I have told him he can win early and still play in if he wants to) was now 1 up on the 18th tee, Jacob had got his match all square and had a 5 foot eagle putt on 17 to go one up. Rocco halved 18 to win 1up, Jacob holed his eagle put, then drove pin high and birded 18 to win 2 up and we ran out 9-6 winners.

Famous last words from Graham Barton "I don't know what you were worried about". Luckily have no more hair to lose, but we sure don't make it easy.

It was a very exiciting match played in great spirit by both teams who know each other very well.

Thank you to Ian & Roger (Worcestershire team managers) and all the Worcestershire officials, especially Colin the starter and Will Painter Past County President and current Kidderminster Captain, the Kidderminster green staff, Professional Staff and Clubhouse staff everything was first class.

Thank to Chris Watson & Graham Barton and to Nev Gardner (who was there in Spirit).
