MAXSTOKE PARK RETAIN THE CUP

The final of The Warwickshire Cup was played over the Earls Course on 30th March with a repeat of last year with 2018 finalists Maxstoke Park (Captained by Gordon Marston) and Stratford-on-Avon (Captained by Nick Ford) again going head to head.
The course set-up and service we received from Clubhouse and Operations staff at The Warwickshire through out the day was fantastic and a big thanks all round to everyone involved. Add some good weather and we had a great final.
Both teams had faced strong opposition to reach the final and some familiar faces represented them again in this years event with a couple of additions.
Match 1: Stratford-on-Avon - Johnny Worthy & Mark Williams v Maxstoke Park - Stephen Creed & Shaun Young
Maxstoke started strongly in this match with Steve and Shaun taking a 4up lead early on. But Johnny and Mark battled back to get it back to only 1 hole heading down the 17th. Halving this hole they went down the 18th where Maxstoke converted a birdie to win the hole and the match 2up.
Match 2: Stratford-on-Avon - Ryan Humpriss & Jack Drury v Maxstoke Park - Paul Walker & Richard Sherrin-Jones
This match was tight throughout with Stratford taking a lead and then Maxstoke, but with the match still anyones through the 13th hole and some fantastic shots on show from both sides, Stratford couldn't quite hold on which began by finding the water on the 14th hole. Eventually, Maxstoke taking the point on the 17th 2&1.
Match 3: Stratford-on-Avon - Nick Ford & Theo Barnes v Maxstoke Park - Tony Allen & Kevin Henderson
Again a very close match, with Stratfords Captain for the day Nick Ford and 17 year old Theo Barnes taking on the experienced Maxstoke pairing of Tony Allen and Kevin Henderson. After recovering well from a couple of wayward shots with some fine putting, Stratford took control of the match on the 17th and won 2&1.
For all matches to go to at least the 17th hole shows what a close battle this was again between our finalists. Well done to Maxstoke Park for retaining the cup and also to Stratford-on-Avon for reaching the final again.
