2018 Warwickshire Schools Recap & 2019 details

2018 saw a strong field of boys and girls taking part in the Warwickshire Schools

Championships at Walmley Golf Club on Monday 9thApril.

As always, the championships comprised of a multitude of categories. The best boys and best girls were in with a chance to qualify for the Midlands Schools Championships and the winning Under 16 boy and girl could qualify for the England Under 16 Championships. Finally, the top school would qualify for the England Schools Team championships at Woodhall Spa.

As well as these groups there were a number of age group prizes to be won.

The boys gross trophy was won by Rhys Wallace with a gross 77 and a back 9 of 38, holding off Charlie Lamb who also had a 77, but a back 9 of 40.

The girls winner was Katie Drew with a gross 88 and Roxan Lindsay was runner up with a 98.

The Schools team prize was a very close result, but Plantsbrook School, Sutton Coldfield represented by Bern Storer, Arjan Billan and Alfie Barron, came out the winners.

The team that represented Warwickshire at the Midland Schools was Daniel Pearce, Rhys Wallace, Charlie Lamb and Channon James. Katie Drew was selected but she could not attend due to other commitments.

Unfortunately, Daniel struggled all day, but Charlie Lamb and Channon James started well in the morning with a 72 and 76 respectively, However both boys could not maintain that level and fell away with an 83 and 89. Both boys will have enjoyed the day.

Rhys had a tough time scoring 80 and 78 when nothing seems to go his way.

The final event of the schools year for Warwickshire was the England Schools Team Championships. A very exciting event for Plantsbrook School, who gave their team full support. In the team was Ben Storer, Arjan Billan and Alfie Barron.

Team came equal 13thout of 35 schools from all parts of England. A great achievement for the boys and their school.
