My how the year flies and here we are on Monday 5th November playing the first Winter Alliance of the new season. Harborne Golf Club were our hosts and from the Clubhouse the course looked stunning with the late autumnal colours just fading. Out on the course proved just as good and if there were moments when the golf did not come up to scratch, there were some magnificent views from this somewhat hilly course! What were fantastic though were the greens which were fast but very true and a joy to putt on.
When play commenced it was quite dismal, weather wise but after about an hour or so the sun came out and some of the layers were removed. No complaints about the day weather wise or indeed course wise and it was thought that some good scores would be recorded.
First in were the home pairing of Val ORTON and Hilary BLAKE with a recorded 34 points followed closely behind by the Henley pairing of Margaret TAYLOR and Donna CORNELIUS, also scoring 34 points. I expect that both pairs thought that this score would fall somewhat short but no, when all cards were in these two cards stood as the winning scores. One would think that the home pair would take the spoils, but on this occasion after countback of last 9, then 6 and finally 3 holes, Margaret and Donna were the winners, well done them.
Caroline LASSEN in her last official duty as County President before handing over the reigns at the AGM on Wednesday 7th November, presented the prizes to the winners and Runners Up after thanking Harborne GC for their hospitality and especially the Ladies section for helping out on the day, particularly Helen PALMER who acted as marker to one of the pairings. Upon accepting their Vouchers, Margaret TAYLOR thanked Warwickshire County organisers and staff members at Harborne for looking after everyone stating how much they had enjoyed playing at Harborne today especially playing on their 'fascinating greens'.
