2nd YEAR RUNNING FOR COPT HEATH PAIRING
Maxstoke Park GC was the venue for the 2018 Rene Greey Trophy Competition in which Past Captains from throughout Warwickshire are elegible to enter and this year there were 37 pairs from within 20 Clubs who entered this competition. After heavy rain all day on the Sunday previously, Monday morning arrived and it was still raining!! The course was open, the competion was deemed to be playable and only one pair decided against turning up, albeit many phone calls were made to the club to check if the competition was going ahead!!! The organisers had thought long and hard about calling it off, but as there was a sit down meal included, it was thought it should go ahead.
Raining all day, although in varying degrees, the course held up well and very little surface water was evident on the greens - well done to the Green Keepers. All the entrants finished the competition and were absolutely delighted to be welcomed at the Halfway House by the Maxstoke Lady Captain, Elaine PARTRIDGE who spoiled them with hot coffee or tea and biscuits, which was greatly appreciated.
At the Prize Presentation, County President Caroline LASSEN thanked Elaine for all her hard work today and also for the beautiful flower arrangements in county colours, blue and yellow. Elaine's husband Martin had acted as Starter for the whole period and was truly thanked as were Ball Spotter Sue BLAKE and Ann HALDANE the allocated marker, who turned up but in fact was not required on the day. The Ball Sweep raised £116.40 for the Junior funds.
Angela DAWSON and her partner Karen DOBSON won the Trophy, for the second year running with an excellent score in the conditions, of 32 points in this Foursomes Stableford format.
