LADY VETS PROVE TOO STRONG FOR SENIOR MEN
The Warwickshire Seniors suffered defeat in their annual match against the Warwickshire Lady Vets at Leamington & County Golf Club earlier this week.
The match saw six fourball matches played off handicap with all the ladies receiving an extra two shots due to the difference in course standard scratch. The Ladies team got off to a great start in winning the opening match and despite the second match going the way of the men, albeit on the last green, wins in matches three, four and five saw the ladies home. The final match went the way of the men, again on the last green, but the ladies were over the line by four matches to two. With three of the six games all going to the last hole, the match was perhaps closer than the scoreline suggests, although the ladies wins were all of a comfortable margin and for next years match we may have to dispense with giving the ladies their traditional 'holes up' start !!
Congratulations to Lady Vets Captain Pat Hawthorn and all her players for their team's fine win. My thanks to my team for giving of their best but on the day we came up a little short. The match as always was played in a very friendly but competitive manner and the ladies celebrate winning this match for the second year in a row following their success last year at Olton Golf Club.
To Leamington & County Golf Club, Bryan Frazer and his staff my thanks for their hospitality, warmth of welcome and the presentation of their course. Like so many courses around the country weather conditions during the summer have given the green staff many challenges and the course was presented very well with consistent pace to the greens.
The Seniors next fixture will be their final county match of the season against Derbyshire at Burton-on-Trent Golf Club at the beginning of next month, where a win will secure runners up spot in the West Midlands League.SCORE DETAIL HERE
