HOME PLAYERS DO WELL AT LADBROOK PARK

Meg SWINBURNE      Liz HAYCOCK      Claire HOWELLS

After an earlier cancellation caused by a waterlogged course at the end of April, it was somewhat ironic when we arrived at Ladbrook Park Golf Club on Monday 25th June. to see greenstaff watering the greens at 7am in the morning.  What a difference a couple of months made!  Players were welcomed to the course by starter the Lady Captain Sue SHORTT.

40 players were booked to take part in an 18 hole strokeplay competition, with the Vera Clayton trophy to be won by the best Gross score, the Silver Division Medal for the best Net and the Seniors County Championship best Gross for players 50 and over.  Unfortunately one player had to withdraw with an injury, so Meg SWINBURNE of Ladbrook Park agreed to step in as a marker and rather than just mark, she agreed to take part in the competition.

The day was marked by very hot weather and a course which was drying rapidly, despite the watering efforts of the greens team, leaving some greens very difficult to get the ball to hold.  The dry ground meant plenty of run but also hard bounces, presenting players with a challenging course.  This didn't affect the play of super sub Meg, who went on to win the Silver Division Medal and President's Prize for best Net by a home player with a Net 72 on countback from fellow Ladbrook Park player Tina BATES  Another home player, Liz HAYCOCK, won the Vera Clayton trophy with a 76 gross, with the runner-up prize and Senior County Championship going to Moor Hall player Claire HOWELLS who returned a Gross 79.  Who says that home advantage doesn't count for something?!!

Congratulations to all the players and especially the winners.
