The two days got off to a good start with the team meeting at Hagley Golf Clubs range to warm up for our first match against the home county Worcesterhire.
Stourbridge golf course looked in great condition on arrival, the sun was out and no rain - almost unbelievable.
This first match against Worcestershire as expected was close hard fought good wins from Lewis, Rhys and Theo, supported by a half from Josh only left Alex's match live on the course, he was playing the last hole 1up and managed to win the 18th giving us a 4.5-3.5 win it was a very close match with 5 Matches going to the 18th.
Our Second match was against Gloucestershire and although an early start the team took control of the match early on with wins from Lewis, Rhys & Jamie. Cameron secured a half we only needed 1 point out of the last 3 matches, but wins for Alex & Theo completed a 5.5-2.5 win.
With Staffordshire winning their first two matches also it was going to be a very competitive afternoon, the Greens had been ironed and rolled after the morning matches proving to be even faster for this match.
After 9 holes the two teams were level and very difficult to call the final result unfortunately for Warwickshire, Staffordshire had the better of the back nine running out very good winners 6.5-1.5, the matches were closer than the score line suggests with 6 of the 8 matches going to the 18th. Alex won our only match and Josh secured an half point.
I would like to thank everyone at Stourbridge Golf Club for the hospitality over the two days and in particular the green staff who presented the course in amazing condition despite the recent bad weather. The boys would like to play on those greens every match.
Congratulations to Staffordshire for winning the Tournament and well done to the Boys on finishing a very close 2nd place!
Also Stuart and the Worcestershire organising committee the event ran to clock work and was enjoyed by the players and spectators.
Thank you to all the parents who managed to attend during the two days to see some the matches and finally all of the Warwickshire officials it was great to see so many of you out in force supporting the team; particular thank you to Graham Barton who was with us for the full 2 days and Matt Nixon for acting as starter for the Friday afternoon matches.
