NEW COUNTY CAPTAIN FOR WLCGA

At the recent Ladies County AGM held at Shirley Golf Club, Julia BURTON was handed the badge of office by outgoing Captain Margaret SHEEPY.  Margaret commented that she was delighted to hand the badge to Julia as she had been an excellent Vice Captain and was sure that she would do a great job for Warwickshire over the coming two years.

Julia has spent much of her life playing tennis to a very high level, indeed she was a professional player for some years coming relatively late to this wonderful game of golf.  She has also spent time in coaching young tennis players.  Many Warwickshire ladies may recognise her, as she has spent the last 8 years as Ladies Golf Development Officer, working for England Golf and has visited all the courses within the county many times.  She is a member at Moor Hall Golf Club and has played for the 2nd and then 1st Ladies County Teams, indeed gaining her County Colours this year.  She commented that she has thoroughly enjoyed this experience in her new sport and now wishes to take it further.  Her main thoughts for the two years in office are to bring the County Teams together - Juniors, 1st and 2nd whilst at the same time getting more Club golfers involved in County golf.  Being an extremely competitive person (her words), she highlighted this trait by saying that whilst 3rd place in the 2017 Midlands South County Match week was not a bad result, she and her team would be aiming much higher!! - watch this space!

We wish her an enjoyable and profitable two years in office.

Julia is joined this year by a new Junior Organiser, Hannah CRUMP taking over from the highly successful Jane BRENNAN, who as Julia stated will be a hard act to follow. Hannah started her golfing career at Copt Heath Golf Club and was heavily involved with the Junior gilrs as a successful player before moving on to the senior teams.  Now an Assistant Professional at Robin Hood Golf Club having taken her PGA qualifications, she is delighted to be giving something back to the County and looks forward to working with the girls.
