SENIOR MEN 2nd BEST AT BRAMPTON PARK

Our League Play Off Match against East Midlands League winners Nottinghamshire was a one sided affair.

The day started with difficulties with many Warwickshire players having been caught up in the closing of the A14 at Kettering making their arrival a little more fraught than usual. Nottinghamshire had no such issues having enjoyed a practice round the day before and then staying very close to the course. Our opponents were kept informed of our travel issues and I am grateful for their understanding and kindly delaying the tee off times for our team.

The match played over just 18 holes of four ball betterball golf saw our disrupted arrival contribute to the team getting off to a slow start and Nottinghamshire quickly seized the initiative and for the most part, the tone of the day was set.

Due to our trip north last week it had not been possible to play a practice round and the Nottinghamshire team took full advantage on the quirky golf course. The Nottinghamshire Captain said to me afterwards that they had benefitted significantly from their previous day's look-see and knew that we would be at a distinct disadvantage, with so many holes being severe dog legs and the use of the driver not always being necessary. That being said Nottinghamshire are a class act and with so many of their top players playing it was always going to be a tough game for us.

We were by and large outplayed for much of the day and my congratulations to Nottinghamshire for their fine and well deserved win.

One bright spot of the day was the amazing comeback of Tony Allen and Neil Stewart. At one point 5 down during the back nine, a birdie three on the last hole saw the pair escape with a half, but otherwise a day to forget for Warwickshire.

My congratulations again to Captain Neil Martin and his fine side on their win and my thanks for his kind words about our team's performance this year.

My thanks to Brampton Park for their hospitality, to Midland Golf Union's Brian Morris for attending and also a special thanks to Mike Edwards for making the long trip in support of the team.
Thanks to my team for their efforts today and to all those players who have turned out to represent the County during this year.

It will be a long winter before we get to do it all over again in 2018-I hope you are all looking forward to it as much as I am.

Enjoy the break
