GIRLS STABLEFORD SERIES - ROUND 1

The first of the Stableford Series was played at Sutton Coldfield Golf Club on Sunday 2 April 2017.  It was a beautiful sunny day and by the afternoon very warm for April.  The course was magnificent with lots of run on the ball and super fast greens and once again the scores were magnificent.

Grateful thanks must go to the ladies at Sutton Coldfield who performed above and beyond in their level of hospitality.    Special thanks to Sue Foster, Ladies Secretary and Gill Keegan, Assistant Secretary who co-ordinated all the helpers accompanying the girls round the course.   These ladies made sure that the girls correctly followed the Rules of Golf, made sure the recording of scores was correct and that the cards were signed and completed.   Eileen Jones the current Ladies Captain was there all day making sure that everything ran smoothly and spending quite a lot of time in the kitchen washing up!  A special mention must go to the ladies  who spent all day making up sandwiches and serving beans on toast etc to starving girls when they had completed their round.

In the 18 hole Competition, Roxanne LINDSAY from Maxstoke Golf Club, playing off 36, scored 39 points, and was the third winner of the Sylvia Evans Salver – a prize which is now an annual event, followed by Phoebe ANDERSON from Rugby Golf Club playing off 18 who scored 38 points.    Roxanne was heard to say that she had been practicing after school for a couple of week before the competition and now she was glad that she had practiced.

Patrick Brady, the Club Professional, organised a putting competition and this was greatly enjoyed by the girls.  Sincere thanks go to Patrick for his hard work.   Thanks must also go to the coaches who observed the girls on the course all day.

All in all it was a successful day.
