The above matches were played at Sutton Coldfield Golf Club in the morning on 19th May 2019. See other fixture for the details of the matches played in the afternoon.
We had a fine day for this match and the course was in excellent condition despite the presence of a herd of cows on the 18th fairway during the final match!
We had decided to play this match in the new County Week format – so 3 singles and 2 foursomes in the morning and then the same again in the afternoon with some changes to the team. We had a great morning with the 3 singles being won by Gemma Bradbury, Lisa Barton and Liz Haycock and then both foursomes also won starring Julia Burton and Emma Morton and Rachel Rusted and Abi Mortimer-Lane. So we were off to a very fine start with a 5-0 win.
After lunch we were off out again and managed wins from Gemma Bradbury and Abi Mortimer-Lane in the singles and local girl Lauren Beaman ( playing her first 1st team singles match) losing in a tight tussle on the 18th. The foursomes were shared – Lisa Barton and newcomer Zara Houghton (a junior player from Copt Heath making her 1st team debut) delivering an excellent 6&4 win. Rachel and Emma were unlucky to lose on the 18th but this partnership showed great potential nevertheless. So another win for Warwickshire 3-2 meaning that the overall score for the day was a resounding 8-2 win.
All in all this was a fantastic result and an excellent start to the season and we move on to Trentham Park GC next Sunday to play Staffordshire full of confidence.
