Having won the West Midlands League title, Warwickshire qualified to play against the winners of the corresponding East Midlands League in a match to decide the overall Midlands League Champion.
Without going into great detail, but giving you an overall flavour of the day, Warwickshire built a significant lead in the morning Foursomes with four wins and two halved matches.
Morning Foursomes Result:
Warwickshire 5 points - Leicestershire and Rutland 1 points.
What we do know is, that there is no lead big enough to make you comfortable going into the afternoon fourballs. Match one and two ended in very high quality halved matches, with three England Internationals involved"¦our very own, Warren Bladon and Steve Creed with Steve Sansome of Leicestershire and Rutland. But, with Leicestershire in command in two other matches, things became very tight and tense.
A superb victory from Martin Fell and Andrew Carman set up a grandstand finish with one match left out on the course. Playing the last hole, Tony Allen and Kevin Henderson needed to record a minimum of a halved match to ensure a Warwickshire victory"¦.. no pressure then !!!!!!
Having played a remarkable approach shot into the final green, it was left to Tony to finish the job off, which he duly did, a very fitting end to what was an incredible win for Warwickshire Seniors
Afternoon Fourball Result:
Warwickshire 5 points Leicestershire and Rutland 7 points
The overall result therefore was a Warwickshire win 10 points to 8 points.
