Girls Stableford Series finishes in style
The final event in the Stableford Series for Girls was played at Coventry Hearsall Golf Club on Wednesday, 31 August.. There was a good turnout for this event with the girls having played a lot over the summer holidays and an impressive number had significantly reduced their handicaps during that time! We had almost all our lowest handicap girls playing and on a hot, muggy day on a very dry course with fast greens creating problems for the girls, there was some competitive scoring.
We were made very welcome by the club, in particular Elizabeth Crummack, Lady Captain and Ian McCairns the General Manager. Elizabeth and Ann kindly accompanied two groups of girls along with WLCGA committee members Lesley Duff, Maggie Taylor and Bobbi, our County President who has been present at every competition this year. We have been so grateful for her enthusiasm and support.
The winner of the 18 hole category for handicaps 0 – 36.4 was Jessica Davies (The Warwickshire) with a score of 34 points. Grace Walkden (Stonebridge) was runner up with 31 points and as there were 11 playing on this occasion a 3rd prize awarded, which went to Maisie Halstead (Kenilworth) with 30 points.
In the 9 hole category for those with handicaps below 54 but electing to play 9 holes, Erin Thompson (Stonebridge) won with a superb 25 points with Elsie Glover (Kenilworth) close behind with 22 points. Great scoring by both these girls on a really tricky day!
That was the final competition in the series and the points over the 3 events will be added up and the winner presented with the Stableford Series trophy at the Pre-season meeting in March 2023.
Maisie Halstead as Warwickshire Junior Champion goes on to the England Golf Champion of Champions event at Woodhall Spa this weekend and Maisie together with Arianna Virik and Molly Moffat will all compete at the Midland Union Champion of Champions at Burghley Park on the 18th September. We wish them well and in particular hope they enjoy their day!
